How to make a nappy cake : perfect for a baby shower or a newborn gift
How to make a nappy cake
perfect for a baby shower or a newborn gift
Why spend so much money on a nappy cake when its so cheap and easy to make yourself!!!
Supplies Needed To Make Nappy Cake:
Nappies Of Your Choice (25-30 diapers per tier)
Cake Pans In The Same Size As Cake Tiers
Standard Sizes For Tiers Are 12", 10", 8"
3 Large Rubber Bands
Cardboard Cake Tray (12")
Ribbon (4 yards for 3 tier cake)
Tulle Or Cellophane (3 yards)
Step 1: Place Diapers In Sturdy Cake Pan
Use a sturdy cake pan in the size you want and place a handful of diapers inside.
Step 2: Fan The Diapers
Fan the diapers against the side of the cake pan holding them securely with your hand.
Step 3: Continue Adding Diapers
Keep adding more diapers until you fill the pan.
Step 4: Add Rubberband To Secure Tier
Slide a larger rubberband carefully around the entire tier.
Step 5: Fill The Middle
Either save a hole in the middle for hidden baby gifts (you can roll up a cute baby gift or soft blanket and insert it down the middle of the finished cake) or you can fold and roll a couple of diapers to keep the middle solid.
Step 6: Flip Pan Over
Flip the entire cake pan over and lift the pan off so you are left with a tier of diapers.
Step 7: Repeat With Each Tier
Repeat the process for each diaper cake tier. Use different size cake pans for a beautiful diaper cake
Step 8: Tie A Ribbon Around Each Tier
Tie ribbon around each tier and remove the rubberband by cutting it off after the ribbon is securely tied.

Weekend Fun : How to make a plaster of paris
Weekend Fun:
How to make a plaster of paris
Try this at home and you can create either and beautiful hand/footprint keepsake or make some chalk.
Plaster of Paris can be purchased at any craft store, but it is incredibly easy to make at home if you are a DIY kind of person. In fact, there are only two main ingredients-flour and water.
Creating the Homemade Plaster of Paris
Measure and pour six cups of flour into a large mixing bowl. Add four cups of water and stir until no lumps of flour are present. This will take several minutes.
Substitutions
Ordinary white school glue can be substituted for the flour, but then the amount of water must be decreased to three cups.
Tips
The consistency of the homemade Plaster of Paris should be thick, but not to difficult to stir. If you feel the plaster is somewhat runny, add more flour. The opposite is also true. If the plaster is to hard to stir, add more water. Keep working at it until you get it just right.
Warnings
Creating your own plaster of paris for crafting can be quite messy. It is best to wear an art smock, and a pair of rubber gloves while working with the flour and water.
Crafts You can Make with the Homemade Plaster of Paris
Handprints: Pour the plaster in a disposable cake pan. When the plaster starts to harden a bit, press your child’s hand in the center of it. Lift your child’s hand straight up and out of the plaster. Wait for the plaster to dry completely before removing it from the cake pan.
Sidewalk chalk: Fill each space in an egg carton with your homemade plaster. Drip three drops of tempera paint into each space, and stir to combine. Set aside until the plaster hardens. Remove and use outside in the driveway, or on a nearby sidewalk.

Mothers Day Special:How to create a paper Flower
Mothers Day Special
How to create Paper Flowers
This very special blog is for those who need to keep the kids busy today and if you need something but have no cash!
Supplies needed:
|
Cut a few pieces (about 4-6) of tissue paper (crepe paper) about 8 x 10 inches (the exact size doesn't matter).Put the paper in a pile and fold it like an accordion. |
Tie the center of the folded paper with a green pipe cleaner (or twist tie). |
Gently pull each piece of paper towards the top center of the flower, separating each sheet of paper from the others (forming the petals of the flower). |

Weekend Fun : Super Giant Bubbles
Weekend Fun : Super Giant Bubbles
I came across this recipe and thought this would be the perfect thing to start my "Weekend Fun" series
The Recipe
12 cups water
1 cup dishwashing soap
1 cup cornstarch
2 Tablespoons Baking Powder (not baking soda)
Place ingredients in clean bowl or bucket.
stir gently
let the mixture sit for a hour
To make to wand
(or you can always use a reshaped wire coathanger)
Two wooden dowels. It doesn't matter how long, it doesn't matter how wide. I bought the standard length at the craft store, which was 36 inches/ 92cm long. Longer ones may let you get the bubble up higher in the air so it lasts longer before it hits the ground. Do make sure the dowels are thick enough in diameter so they do not bend when you hold them out. Mine was 1/2 inch in diameter.
Two small eyelet screws (I didn't even buy these, I had some from a picture frame hanging kit I purchased way back)
Drill or dremel tool with a small drill bit
Tape measure and scissors
Two lengths of cotton string: 100 inches long and 65 inches long.
Two metal washers (for adding weight to the string).
1. Using a dremel tool or a drill with a small drill bit, drill a small hole on one end of each dowel stick. Then screw the eyelet loops into the holes.
2. Measure and cut two lengths of cotton string. One should be 100 inches long. The other should be 65 inches long. Tie the end of the 100 inch string to one of the eyelets. Next, thread two washers on to the 100 inch length of string. Then, tie the other end of the 100 inch string to the other eyelet on the other dowel. It should look like this:
3. Now take the 65 inch long piece of string and tie the end of it to one of the eyelet loops. Tie the other length of string to the other eyelet. The giant bubble maker is now ready to use and should look like this:
